This is my fusion of natural unbleached canvas and intricate Kalamkari fabric to produce this gem of a tote bag....zoom into the bag pic for the stunning Kalamkari detail.
Handloom Kalamkari cotton fabric I sourced on a trip to rural India to understand local fabric production methods by artisans. Kalamkari (Perisan derived word meaning pen and craftskills) is an ancient hand drawn print work with pen or 'kalam' however also referred to intricate block/screen printing work involving 17 steps originating from parts of India and Iran, an art form in decline as the handmade Kalamkari artisans compete with mass produced textiles. Sarees are also produced using Kalamkari methods.
Limited edition stock as this stunning hand screen printed fabric I sourced from the limited quantities from rural suppliers. The bag is light and is meant for gentle use. Vegetable based dyes used for the Kalamkari fabric. Print may be imperfect due to being handmade. For more information on Kalamkari see Wikipedia
Can be used as a shopping bag, tote bag, hand bag, library bag and of course your holiday trips as it can be flat packed into your handbag as pictured!
Care Instructions - Kalamkari Cotton - Handwash separately in cold water as colours will run for first few washes until it stabilizes which is expected due to vegetable dyes used and production methods. Using a washing machine and dryer is NOT recommended.
Dimensions: 37cm x 41cm, handles 30cm

Jute / Hessian / Juco - is very resistant to dirt and spot clean / gentle sponge to wipe off any marks. The bag has a laminate on the inside and use a wet cloth to clean the inside liner. Using a washing machine and dryer is NOT recommended as the dryer will melt the laminate. Dry cleaning is fine.
Canvas - Care Instructions: Hand wash separately in cold water. Dry cleaning is fine as well. Drip dry. May shrink due to unbleached canvas used.
Textured Cotton: Hand wash separately in cold water and drip dry. May shrink.
Handlooms Kalamkari / Ikkat: Natural pigment dyes used which will run when washed - this is expected due to the age old process and dyes used. Hand wash separately in cold water and drip dry.
